How Gm. Jimmy R. Jagtiani is the Founder and Father of Taekwondo in India?


On 2nd August 1977, the first anniversary of the Taekwondo Federation of India was organized,  with a demonstration of highly techniques at the K.D. Singh Babu indoor stadium. The students trained by me, especially Mr. Inder Kumar Singh and Mr. Dinesh Kumar Singh both are senior most students along with others entered the Arena and enchanted the viewers by their superb performance, which was inaugurated by none other than the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea His Excellency Mr. Bum Suk Lee was the Chief Guest and Dr. Banarsi Das Gupta was the Guest of Honor.

On 2nd August 1978, 2nd Anniversary of Taekwondo Federation of India was organized, Hon’ble Minister Don Wu Chu, Minister of the Republic of Korea was the Chief Guest. Minister Chu was appreciated with the promotion of Taekwondo in India by Master Jimmy R. Jagtiani. Hon’ble Minister Chu awarded Minister’s Medal to Master Jimmy R. Jagtiani and declared “Master Jimmy R. Jagtiani, Father of Taekwondo in India”  in 1978.

His Excellency Mr. Bum Suk Lee and Minister Chu promised to send Master Jimmy  to Korea for further advanced training under Kukkiwon and the World Taekwondo Federation, (W.T.F.) in 1978.

In Korea, I received rigorous training under Grand Master Chang Seong Dong from July 1978 to Sept. 1979, who transformed me into a Taekwondo exponent; on Feb. 1979 I qualified 3rd Dan Black from Kukkiwon, Korea. I own immensely tribute to my Master Chang Seong Dong, who renders me the most competent guidance and co-operation all the way.

Master Jimmy R. Jagtiani also promoted Taekwondo in Nepal in 1980. He was invited by the than King of Nepal, His Excellency Birender B. B. Shah in the year 1980. He is the founder of Taekwondo in Nepal.

Further, the TFI arranged special demonstration by the Korean Experts in the premises of the Prime Minister’s resident, New Delhi on 17th March 1986. The Prime Minister late Hon’ble Rajiv Gandhi had witnessed the demonstration. He was so impressed that promised to extended all possible help to the Taekwondo Federation of India,  resulting in. The Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India granted recognition of the Taekwondo Federation of India as an apex judicial and autonomous National body of Taekwondo in India in 1988.

On 10th April 2009. The TAEKWONDO HALL OF FAME, USA, confer upon Gm. Jimmy R. Jagtiani as Father of Taekwondo in India. Gm. Jimmy R. Jagtiani, the first Indian Grandmaster Inductee in Taekwondo Hall of Fame USA-2009.

The Executive Director and Technical Advisors of Taekwondo Hall of Fame USA,  after scrutinized all the previous records and activities promoted by Gm. Jimmy R. Jagtiani during 1974-1975 including the Medals received from Hon'ble Ambassador Mr. Bum Suck Lee in 1977, and another Medal received from Hon'ble Minister Don Wu Chu in 1978 declared Gm. Jimmy R. Jagtiani, Founder and Father of Taekwondo in India in 1977 and 1978 respectively.

Jagtiani is also Founder: Taekwondo in India, Founder: South Asian Tkd Federation, Secretary General: International Tkd Academy, Korea, Secretary-General Taekwondo Federation of India, Managing Director: Taekwondo Academy of India, Former Executive: Asian Taekwondo Union (Korea), Former Executive Indian Olympic Association, Grand Master: International Master Instructor, Referee International / Asian /World and Olympic level, Black Belt: 8th Dan in Taekwondo, Black Belt: 6th Dan in Hapkido, Technical Advisor: Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters) Specialist: Physical Therapy & Acupressure.

The National Institute of Sports (N.I.S.),  allowed scholarship benefits to the meritorious sports persons of Taekwondo.The Government of India further allowed employment to the meritorious sports persons of Taekwondo against sports quota vacancies in relaxation of the direct recruitment rules. The Sports Authority of India (S.A.I) adopted Taekwondo in its syllabus for coaching Instructor and the Railway Department extended concession for the Taekwondo players participating in the National & State Taekwondo Championship.
The TFI granted affiliation to the Services Sports Control Board (S.S.C.B.) in 1990, Army Sports Control Board (A.S.C.B.) in 1992, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), in 1995. The Taekwondo Federation of India “TFI” granted affiliation to Taekwondo Academy of India “TAI” in 1990.
At present the TFI have got 20,000.00 (twenty thousands) Black Belt Holders, 20,000.00 (twenty thousands) National Referee and 700,000.00 (Seven Hundred thousands) Taekwondo players all over India.
